I am SO thrilled to have the talented Jennifer Estep here today! She is truly one of my favorite authors. If you don’t already know, Ms. Estep’s book, THE SPIDER, will be releasing on December 24, 2013! How excited are you?!?! I know I am!
Ms. Estep was kind enough to afford me a character interview with Gin! The assassin who truly kicks elemental ass!
Scarlett: Hello, Gin! So what trouble have you been up to in THE SPIDER?
Gin: Hi, Scarlett! Thanks for featuring me on your blog. I appreciate it.
Well, THE SPIDER is actually a prequel book, so it focuses on some trouble that I got into about 10 years ago, back when my mentor, Fletcher Lane, was still alive. Fletcher was approached about me doing a job as the assassin the Spider. But, of course, things weren’t exactly what they seemed, and I ended up fighting for my life, just like usual. So this is sort of the origin story of the events that truly made me into the Spider. I hope that folks enjoy seeing this look back into my past.
Scarlett: How’s…*yum*…Owen doing?
Gin: Owen is doing just fine, and we are together and stronger than ever, as folks can see in the beginning of THE SPIDER.
Scarlett: Gin, what would be the one meal that you would cook that describes THE SPIDER?
Gin: Good question! In the beginning of the book, I would make something rich and decadent – like chocolate cake or some other sinful dessert – something that I know isn’t good for me, but that I just can’t help but eat anyway.
Toward the end of the book, I would make more comfort food – things like fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese – because of all the bad things that happen.
Scarlett: So…back to Owen. If you could list your three favorite body parts on him, what would they be?
Gin: I would say his violet eyes, his terrific smile, and his warm, strong arms.
Scarlett: Let’s say you could only have one person – alive or dead – at your holiday dinner. Who would it be?
Gin: Well, if I had to pick one person, it would be Fletcher. I miss him, and I’d love to be able to talk to him just one more time, especially during the holidays.
Happy reading and happy holidays, everyone!
THE SPIDER blurb:
How did I end up in a career where I always have blood on my hands? Well, let me tell you a story about an assassin who thought she could do no wrong. . . .
Ten years ago. A blistering hot August night. I remember like it was yesterday. The night I, Gin Blanco, truly became the Spider. Killing people is what I do best, especially now that I’ve honed my Ice and Stone magic. But back then, I had yet to learn one very important rule: arrogance will get you, every single time.
This particular job seemed simple: murder a crooked building contractor with ties to ruthless Fire elemental Mab Monroe. My mentor, Fletcher Lane, had some misgivings, but I was certain that I had the situation under control . . . right up until I exposed my weaknesses to a merciless opponent who exploited every single one of them. There’s a reason assassins aren’t supposed to feel anything. Luckily, a knife to the heart can fix that problem, especially when I’m the one wielding it. . . .
